The Community Foundation of St. Clair County’s 2016 grant awards have topped $1.5 million.
Grant awards have supported everything from arts and culture to economic development, but one grant in particular is making a lot of youth very happy.
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has partnered with Grace Ministry and Impulse Youth Ministry through an $8,000 grant to help with renovations to their new home. It was announced a few months back that they were being forced to relocate. Grace Ministry has been able to purchase a new home, however they need additional funding for renovations.
“Impulse Youth Ministries does so much for the community and for those youth that are involved. Impulse is “home” to many teens, and young adults that need that support system. Impulse teaches the importance of giving back even if you have little. It was important that YAC help with this project so they can continue to thrive and help the teens who attend their youth group.” Abbey Dombrowski, YAC president.
One of the main focus areas of YAC is to provide support for programs that aim to increase self-confidence and body image while focusing on providing positive outlets for teens. So when YAC members heard that Impulse Youth Ministries had to find a new home, they instantly knew this was something they needed to help with.
“Once I found out that the Impulse home was bought I was devastated. Luckily, through the determination of the youth and the support from the community, nothing is going to change. This is the start of something new! And it cannot be any better! ” Giani DiTrapani, YAC member and Impulse Youth Ministry participant.
Impulse Youth Ministries is a teen youth group that serves the Blue Water Area. Impulse provides over 150 students between grades 6-12 an opportunity to serve their community and to be served as individuals. Impulse offers a lot of different outlets for the students to get involved, but put simply, they offer a positive outlet for students to come and grow together working through the often difficult and pivotal time of adolescence.
