2nd Quarter Grants

The various grantmaking committees of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County awarded over $265,000 during the 2nd quarter of 2011.
According to Phyllis Ledyard, chairwoman of the Foundation’s Grants Committee, “The second quarter demonstrated the grantmaking diversity of the Foundation and our donors. Major grants went to community projects in Emmett, St. Clair and the Blue Water YMCA.”
Among the highlights were;
- $11,898 to Emmett Baseball League to support new lighting at the Emmett Baseball Park from the Foundation’s unrestricted donor accounts. The Foundation will also explore providing the financing necessary for the remainder of the project.
- $39,000 to the Blue Water YMCA for general operations from a variety of donor accounts.
- $20,000 to the St. Clair Downtown Development Authority for the expansion of Rotary Park and assistance with the installation of a new fishing pier and boardwalk along the Pine River.
- $5,000 to support the Blue Water Film Festival in October from the Charles & Margaret Anderson Fund.
- $2,300 to St. Clair County Community College added to $5,000 already awarded from the Charles & Margaret Anderson Fund for the creation and installation of a new sculpture in front of the Fine Arts Building.
- $11,400 to St. Clair County RESA for early childhood and literacy programs.
- $7,000 to St. Mary McCormick Catholic Academy in Port Huron from the Norm and Joyce Beauchamp Fund to help purchase Smart Boards.
- $4,704 from the Bob Abdoo Fund for the Hospice House of the Visiting Nurse Association.

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County is the largest public grant making foundation in Michigan’s Thumb Region. The Foundation has over 125 donor accounts with assets totaling over $34 million.
