Access to Recreation Fund Announces Grant Opportunity

Posted on May 3, 2010

Tree HouseFor the past three years, the Access to Recreation initiative has helped transform our community by creating barrier-free, universal access to recreational opportunities across St. Clair County.

Access to Recreation projects include Michigan’s first and only universally designed tree house; at the Pine River Nature Center, an Extreme Pool Makeover making the Algonac pool universally accessible; and canoe and kayak launches at county parks that allow people with mobility issues to easily get into and out of the water.

The Community Foundation of St. Clair County has a program to help maintain these projects and encourage new ones. The Access to Recreation Endowment Fund has met a $90,000 Challenge Grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

The first round of funding will support businesses and nonprofit organizations that focus on products, services or programs that promote universal accessibility. A total of $7,000 is available in round one.  Submissions are due by June 25, 2010.  Follow the links below for additional information and eligibility criteria.
