Acheson Completes Christmas Gift to Foundation

Posted on December 22, 2011

Mr. James C. Acheson recently completed a pretty impressive Christmas gift to the Community Foundation.  While in town for the holidays, Mr. Acheson gave his final blessing to donate almost the entire shoreline of Desmond Landing along the St. Clair River, to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.

The Community Foundation has been planning and preparing for this major gift since the summer of 2010.  Through a series of focus group sessions, tours of the Detroit Riverfront, and a significant amount of collaboration with other local and state partners, the Community Foundation has developed a master plan for the complete restoration of the shoreline.

The Foundation expects the total project to take several years to complete, but when it’s done the shoreline will be naturalized, cleaned up, and restored with new plant and wildlife habitat and a multi-purpose pedestrian trail.

Mr. Acheson is a former Trustee of the Community Foundation and his family have been donors and partners since his father, Howard Acheson, helped create the foundation back in 1944.
