Annual Dinner Celebration
Posted on November 14, 2011
A sold-out crowd of over 260 volunteers, donors and friends celebrated another year of philanthropy at the Community Foundation’s 2011 Annual Dinner on November 10th.
The highlight of the evening was honoring the retirements of four prominent Foundation board members: Lee Hanson, who joined the Foundation in 2001; Dave O’Connor who first joined the Foundation in 1990; Fred Moore who joined the Foundation in 1992 and Doug Austin, who retired from the board after 29 years of service, having joined in 1982.
The evening began with an inspiring introduction from Jared Land, a young man who lives in the WINGS home for youth, which is a beautiful Victorian home in Port Huron, which is owned by the Community Foundation but operated and managed by the Harbor.
Geoff and Jenifer Kusch celebrated their new donor advised fund by making a $1,000 grant to Mid-City Nutrition to support the Soup Kitchen. The Foundation reported that their gift brings total Foundation grants, scholarships and support to just over $25,517,000 since the Foundation was created as the Port Huron District Foundation in November of 1944.
