Bill Gilmer - Donor Spotlight
Posted on March 1, 2006
Bill has always been interested in youth activities since his days as a DeMolay member. He was instrumental in developing a youth council in the small Indiana town where he grew up. Bill was a natural as a dance DJ, which eventually led into working in radio. And, yes, he still has some of the records he used at the dances. Radio led him to Port Huron where he served a brief stint on the City Council. He also helped out with Boy Scout activities in the 80’s and served on the board of directors for the Michigan Waterways Council of the Girl Scouts for a number of years. He feels his interest in the Community Foundation was sparked by some of the youth programs offered through the Youth Advisory Council which are somewhat unique in that decisions are determined by youth. He also emphasizes that allowances by the state for tax deductions for some of the donations helped with his decision too.
Bill urges everyone to “take a good look at the foundation….there is something there that will spark your interest in terms of charitable donations.”
