Community Foundation Awarded $50,000 Challenge Grant
Posted on February 4, 2011
Funded by a $500,000 investment from The Kresge Foundation, the Community Foundation Challenge Grants encourage community foundations to expand, enhance, strengthen and sustain their local college access partnerships.
Thanks to this grant, the Community Foundation of St. Clair County has established a permanent endowment fund to support our region’s college access initiative, KnowHow2Go. Every gift made into this fund will be matched dollar for dollar by the Kresge Foundation, up to $50,000.
Funding from the Community Foundation has supported a variety of college access programs including ACT prep courses, College Survival Kits and the launch of the College Access Center at Port Huron High School.
“Over the past few years these programs have impacted over 7,000 students, parents and educators,” commented Joanne Hopper, director of education services at RESA. “These programs are invaluable to families and help dramatically improve the college-going culture of the region.”
The Community Foundation has through August, 2011 to complete the $50,000 challenge grant. If you would like to make a matching gift into the College Access Endowment Fund, please click here:
