Council on Aging Establishes Endowment Fund
Posted on December 7, 2009
With the help of an anonymous donor, the Council on Aging, serving St. Clair County has established an endowment fund at the Community Foundation. Between now and the end of the year, every donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $1,000. The donations will be invested in a permanent fund at the Community Foundation of St. Clair County and the earnings will be granted each year to the Council.
“Agency designated funds are very popular with donors,” states Lynn Borg, Vice President of the Community Foundation. “They benefit local non profit organizations and help us work for the common good – because everyone in St. Clair County should have the opportunity to live in a community they can be proud of and have a productive and fulfilling life.”
The Council on Aging coordinates programs that promote and safeguard the independence and well-being of senior citizens. Among their largest programs is Meals on Wheels, which provides nutritious, home-delivered meals to seniors.
“We are very pleased to receive this challenge grant,” stated Laura Newsome, Executive Director of the Council on Aging. “The programs and services we provide are vital to the county’s seniors. Federal and state dollars are decreasing, so we will be relying more than ever on support from individuals who believe in our mission to maintain our current programming.”
