Donors busy with holiday giving
Posted on December 15, 2017
This year has been exceptionally busy for the Community Foundation with more than 450 individual grants awarded to organizations throughout the Blue Water Area. All this giving has led to record breaking grantmaking totaling over $2.6 million.
None of this would be possible without our truly generous donors, and especially those donors who trust the Community Foundation to manage their money in a donor-advised giving account.
Since November alone, donors have given out almost $60,000 to 20 different organizations through their giving accounts. That’s in one and a half months!
Here are some of the highlights:
- For seven years Geof and Jenifer Kusch have supported the works of the Community Foundation, and they recently used their Kusch Family Fund to give out more than $12,000 to organizations like Mid City Nutrition, Studio 1219, the Blue Water Y and Kids in Distress.
- Gerry Kramer and his Spartan Fund also continue a prolific streak of grantmaking with nearly $14,000 going to Port Huron’s Downtown Development Authority for street lights, McLaren Port Huron Hospital Foundation, Blue Water Habitat for Humanity, Kids in Distress and the Michigan Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society.
- The Catherine Houghton Fund supported arts and culture with $8,400 going to the Lexington Arts Council and the Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Historical Society.
- The John W. & M. Louise Shier Family Fund granted more than $4,000 to the Salvation Army, Planned Parenthood, Child Abuse & Neglect Council, Blue Water Developmental Housing and Kids in Distress.
