First quarter grants exceed $550,000

The Community Foundation’s grant-making committees are off to a strong start with more than $567,000 granted out to community programs and organizations. 

Grants covered areas from the arts to education to nonprofit capacity building. So far the largest percentage has gone to arts and culture ($160,000+) and nonprofit capacity building ($127,000+), which falls under our top priority area of Community and Economic Prosperity. 

The Port Huron Museum received more than $98,000 from our John R. Dolan and Walter K. Brooks Memorial funds, both of which were created to provide general support to the museum.

Enter Stage Right also received $10,000 to help support its performances on the newly renovated Citadel Stage in downtown Port Huron.

Other highlights include:

  • $5,200 to Touchstone Services for Planning for Job Success, which helps high schoolers transition to the job market.
  • Port Huron High School received $1,000 for Victory Day, which pairs a special needs child with a Big Red football player or cheerleader as they run through a full game day experience.
  • $5,000 to the Economic Development Alliance for the First Robotics competition .
  • The Council On Aging received $22,000+ from its agency designated fund to help with general support.
