First Quarter Grants Exceed $670,000

Grants and awards from the Community Foundation of St. Clair County have exceeded $670,000 in the first quarter of 2015.
“We’re off to a very busy start to this year,” said Donna Niester, board chair. “We’re excited to be able to support some outstanding programs, projects and organizations throughout St. Clair County.”
Ms. Niester said the top grant went to the Blue Water YMCA in the amount of $100,000. The grant supports the new membership program of the YMCA which expands membership programs and makes them more affordable to families and residents of St. Clair County.
“The Community Foundation has been a partner and supporter of the YMCA since the 1950’s and we are proud to continue that tradition,” she added.
Other grant highlights include:
- $17,500 for a new TEC Summer Job Skills project led by RESA
- $149,000 in funding for arts and culture, including regular annual grants totaling over $93,000 to the Port Huron Museum and more than $24,000 to Studio 1219
- $10,000 for permanent public art in Port Huron and St. Clair
- $10,000 for the Blueways of St. Clair National Water Trail project and $2,500 to the YP’s for continued Black River Walk enhancements
- $5,500 for upcoming festivals on Harsens Island and in Marine City
