Grantmaking underway in 2014
Posted on March 25, 2014
Over 40 organizations throughout the county have already benefited from the over $500,000 in grant dollars the Community Foundation has distributed in the 1st quarter of 2014.
If summer ever arrives, outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the county will be enhanced through a couple of grants to the City of Port Huron and St. Clair. The City of Port Huron will be using a $30,000 grant to add an ADA accessible kayak launch in downtown Port Huron and $15,000 will help the City of St. Clair add campsites to the St. Clair Boat Harbor to encourage guests to stay overnight in a unique downtown setting.
Education has also been a top priority. Holland Woods and Central Middle School libraries will be getting some new books with the $13,000 they are receiving from the Foundation. Baker College and St. Clair County RESA are using some grant funds to launch a couple of exciting new projects. Baker College is looking to add a greenhouse to support healthy and sustainable communities complementing their new culinary institute. RESA is continuing to grow their KnowHow2Go program and developing a complete path to post secondary educational opportunities through a new college readiness program.
