Harsen’s Island St. Clair Flats Association Is Investing in Its Future
Posted on February 19, 2020
An active and volunteer-led Harsen’s Island St. Clair Flats Association (HISCFA) is the latest nonprofit to open an organization fund with the Community Foundation.
“The Association wants to foster long-term sustainability, help grow our funds, and provide a trusted organization to which Islanders can make a gift to support the group’s work both now and in the future,” said George Covalle, president of Harsen’s Island St. Clair Flats Association.
More than 40 local organizations are supported by agency-designated funds at the Community Foundation, and Covalle said the professional oversight of those funds and investments is what drew HISCFA to open one of its own.
The newly established Harsen’s Island St. Clair Flats Association Fund will help the Association maximize its impact through the collective giving of Islanders. The fund provides an option for those who want to make a planned gift for the future and leave a lasting legacy for an island they love.
HISCFA was officially formed in 1945, although the St. Clair Flats Association has roots that go as far back as 1925. In 1945, the Harsen’s Island Improvement Association merged with the St. Clair Flats Association to form the Harsen’s Island St. Clair Flats Association.
HISCFA maintains extensive involvement in the Harsen’s Island community. From Browne’s Field upkeep, advertising and maintenance of the Park N’ Ride, to hosting numerous events for Islanders to enjoy throughout the summer. The association takes the lead in these areas, as well as the water station and producing the annual Delta News to keep public spaces accessible and information flowing.
That’s not all. HISCFA is active in outreach as well, helping to support the local Lions Club, Islanders in need, and providing a few scholarships for students.
As the HISCFA Fund at the Foundation grows, the Association will be able to provide further investment into local activities and resources relied upon by Islanders. This fund opens the doors to further collaboration and partnership on Harsen’s Island.
Organization funds at the Community Foundation range from nonprofits providing health and human services, to nonprofits focused on education and youth, arts and culture as well as faith-based work. Local nonprofits and community groups are investing in their long-term support and stability to continue their good works and critical services.
