Library Fund has Matching Gifts

Like the famous philanthropist and industrialist, Andrew Carnegie, Norma and Angelo Cortese believed that they had a duty to help make the world a better place. In 1904 Carnegie donated $40,000 to build the Carnegie Building in Port Huron, as gift to the Port Huron Library.
Mr. & Mrs. Cortese, residents of Port Huron, believed in their library, not just as a place to do research or take out books, but also as a cultural institution that strengthens the community. The library was one of Norma’s favorite places, and she was an active member of the Friends of the Library for many years.
Although both Norma and Angelo Cortese passed away in early 2011, they made plans through their estate to give something back to the Library. Because of their generosity, the Friends of the Library are able to offer a challenge to St. Clair County residents who also love their library.
From now through December 31st, 2011, the Friends of the Library will provide a dollar-for-dollar match for gifts of $50 to $400 made to the Library Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation. This match is capped at $5,000 total and is designed to help motivate area residents to take advantage of the special 50% Michigan Community Foundation Tax Credit before that credit expires at the end of 2011.
