Marysville gets community endowment fund

A large group of Marysville residents and business leaders filled the Marysville High School Commons for the June 12 announcement of the Community Foundation of St Clair County’s community endowment fund.
“Community Funds are a valuable resource that allow residents, businesses and organizations to support their hometown,” said Randy Maiers, president of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County.
The Marysville Community Endowment Fund is the fourth such fund managed by the Community Foundation.
This new permanently endowed fund for the residents of Marysville will support special projects, programs and organizations in Marysville for generations to come.
Maiers added the foundation is excited and grateful for the early support and leadership from companies like DTE, SMR, Semco and Wells Fargo. Initial corporate gifts already have the fund approaching $50,000.
“These are exciting times for Marysville and the Community Foundation is proud to be a part of it,” Maiers said.
Community funds allow a committee of local residents to decide the best charitable uses for funds.
This newest fund joins the Port Huron Community Fund and the Citizens for St. Clair Fund, which were both formed in 1994, and the Algonac/Clay Community Fund which was founded in 2004.
This year the Port Huron, St. Clair and Algonac/Clay funds granted out a combined total of $26,000:
Citizens for St. Clair: $15,000
Algonac/Clay Community Fund: $8,500
Port Huron Community Fund: $2,500
