The Education Task Force in partnership with the Women’s Initiative awarded a $52,650 grant to St. Clair County RESA to increase technology in middle school math classrooms.
“As the Michigan math curriculum becomes more challenging, it is critical we provide the tools necessary to prepare students for success. Eighty six percent of the middle school students surveyed answered “Yes” when asked if technology helped them learn math.” said Dr. Monica Hartman, Director of Math and Science at St. Clair County RESA. She added that “This grant will allow our middle schools in St. Clair County to provide technology in math classrooms that meets 21st century standards.”
Dr. Sushma Reddy, Co-Chair of the Education Task Force stated that “Due to varying school sizes and individual district funding sources, gaps exist in student access to technology. The technology funded is research based and will directly impact middle school students throughout St. Clair County as they prepare for high school and college.”
This is the second year the Education Task Force and the Women’s Initiative focused on student success in the area of middle school math. In 2009, eleven middle schools received technology grants totaling $49,500, for a two year middle school math grant total of $102,150.
