The Community Foundation has awarded more than 95 students scholarship awards totaling over $170,000 for the 2015/2016 school year.
Recipients of the awards represent twelve different schools throughout the area, including Blue Water Middle College.
Port Huron High School students received the most support, with scholarship dollars totaling $28,650 through 12 different awards. Two of those students are pictured at right. Christopher Baur (top) received the John F. and Rose Marie Wismer Community Foundation Scholarship and Paul Robison (bottom) received the Kenneth & Verl Fleury Foundation Scholarship.
The Alice Moore Memorial Scholarship provides assistance to students looking to further their education through a trade. Ryan Randlett, Juan Padilla and Beatrice Carlsen will have that opportunity this year. Randlett plans to study to become a diesel technician and Padilla an automotive technician while Carlsen has plans to study cosmetology.
The recipients plan on attending 24 different colleges and universities, with the highest number (19) planning to attend St. Clair County Community College. The University of Michigan barely beat out Michigan State with 11 recipients heading to U of M and 10 attending MSU in the fall.
The Community Foundation’s scholarship funds represent a wide range of donor interests, providing many opportunities for our students to receive assistance. All of those awards can be seen here.
