We’re Helping 3 Local Robotics Teams heading to Worlds!
Posted on April 17, 2018
The Port Huron Mecanum Knights, the Capac Metal and Soul and the Richmond Blue Devils all qualified for the world championships that will be held in Detroit at Cobo hall the end of this month. Not only did the team’s qualify for Worlds, out of the state’s 508 teams, they have won numerous team awards as well!
World’s is not cheap… teams already invest upwards of $15,000 - $20,000 just to build and compete in their first competition of the year. Then when they qualify for worlds, it’s another $10k - $15k in costs. We are proud to have donors that have stepped up to support Robotics locally through our newly established Robotics Fund. This fund was started by the Economic Development Alliance of St Clair County who believes that Robotics can be a skilled trades pipeline- something we agree is important for our future workforce.
The first grants to our Robotics fund are $5,000 from our James C. Acheson Donor Advised Fund to support the Port Huron Mecanum Knights team, and the other $5,000 from our unrestricted funds to help defray costs of the other two teams going to Worlds.
Robotics inspires young minds to dream, design and build while developing skills that translate into future career opportunities. We’re looking forward to the future of these bright kids and supporting FIRST Robotics locally. Read more about our local team’s latest accomplishments here.
