The Community Foundation is pleased to announce Port Huron Northern graduate Carra Eagen as this year’s John F. & Rose Marie Wismer Community Foundation Scholarship recipient.
She now joins the ranks of Troy Distelrath, Sophia Ahmed and Alexis Smith.
This special class of students will receive the Community Foundation’s largest scholarships from $6,000 - $10,000 because of the generosity of John and Rose Marie Wismer.
Eagen will study biochemistry while at university. Distelrath is a sophomore at Michigan State University where he studies international relations, and social relations and policy. Ahmed is a junior at Columbia University where she studies sustainable development, and Smith is a senior at University of Michigan majoring in biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience.
The Wismer’s started their scholarship fund with the Community Foundation in 2003.
A local businessman and philanthropist, John Wismer loved our community and was known to immerse himself in community activities, donating time and money to various projects in the Blue Water Area. He is best known as the founder and owner of Wismer Broadcasting, today operating as part of Radio First.
Rose Marie Wismer wanted to establish a scholarship that would go to any deserving student of any high school in our county. This is our most prestigious scholarship award given to the best and brightest students in our community.
This year’s class reinforces the Foundation’s philosophy that we should follow students through successful completion of their degree. Thanks to the foresight of the Wismers, the award is renewable.
