Women’s Initiative Grants $10,000
Posted on November 23, 2011
The Women’s Initiative of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County granted $10,000 to one lucky lady’s favorite cause at last night’s Decade of Donating event. The social event was a kick off to a year of celebration for the Women’s Initiative 10th Anniversary in 2012.
For the first time at a Women’s Initiative social event, the women vied for their favorite organization and an anonymous vote determined the evening’s winner of a $10,000 grant. Each woman was asked to come prepared to present a two-minute pitch for their favorite program, project or organization in St. Clair County. Three women were selected by random drawing to present their favorite organization. The three women and their cause were: Renee Granger, Friday Food For Kids; Dr. Sushma Reddy, Kids In Distress Services; and the Honorable Cynthia Lane, Peoples’ Clinic for Better Health. With an anonymous vote, the recipient of a $10,000 grant was Cynthia Lane and the Peoples. Clinic for Better Health.
The mission of the Women’s Initiative is to improve the quality of life in St. Clair County through a woman’s perspective. The group, which is the largest women’s philanthropic group in the county, focuses on education with an emphasis on early intervention to prepare children for success in school. It is also a driving force for the annual backpack giveaway which has now given away over 23,600 backpacks since the program’s inception.
The Decade of Donating Event took place at Bistro 1882 in Port Huron.
