YAC Update
Posted on April 18, 2012
The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County has been busy making grants in 2012. The YAC has already awarded over $30,000 in grants to 15 schools and organizations. Grants have supported a wide range of projects from recreation to education.
With recreation being the YAC’s top priority in 2012, grant dollars supporting recreation have topped $12,500. All youth in St. Clair County will have the opportunity to improve their golf game at the Marysville Golf Course this summer. For ten consecutive Sundays (after 3pm), starting on June 24th all youth under the age of 18 can golf for free.
Our city recreation departments have also been busy planning events for the summer. A partnership between Marine City, Marysville, St. Clair, Port Huron and a $3,500 matching grant from the YAC have resulted in the creation of the SCORE (St. Clair County Organized Recreation for Everyone) Fund. This fund will provide support for those youth that are unable to pay for recreation programs throughout the county.
The YAC will also be announcing the recipients of the annual YAC C.A.R.E. Award in the next few weeks. The YAC C.A.R.E. Award is a $3,000 award that goes to a teacher in St. Clair County that promotes community awareness and philanthropy in the classroom.
