Youth Advisory Council Plastic Bottle Drive
Posted on April 3, 2008
The Youth Advisory Council of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County is partnering with county High School groups by sponsoring a plastic bottle drive beginning on April 14th and ending on May 2nd. All plastic bottles with a recycling number 1 or 2 will be collected at the following participating High Schools:
Algonac High School, Marine City High School, Port Huron High School, Port Huron Northern High School, Capac High School, New Life Christian Academy, Riverview East High School, St. Clair High School, Marysville High School, and Yale High School
All participating schools will receive $.05 per bottle up to 5000 bottles. The two schools that collect the most plastic bottles overall will receive an additional $250 reward. Local residents are encouraged to support their local high school. A recycling bin will be provided by the Youth Advisory Council for high schools to keep in efforts to keep them recycling.
The goal of this project is to create awareness on the importance of recycling our plastic bottles. 8 out of 10 water bottles become landfill waste and take 700 years before they start to decompose. As bottled water becomes more and more popular in the United States it is vital that we as the consumers learn to recycle!
